Apart from films, Bollywood star Salman Khan often makes headlines with his personal life. Bhaijaan established a precedent for supporting a girl in need. Salman was the first Indian to donate bone marrow. Salman registered in ‘Marrow Donor Registry India’ in 2010. Doctor Sunil Parekh confirmed this news to the media.
The doctor told the media, “I and all the people suffering from this bone marrow disease thank Salman for such a great initiative. A little girl named Pooja needed a bone marrow transplant. Salman read that news. He asked everyone on his football team to donate bone marrow. But unfortunately, they all backed out at the last moment. Then only Salman and his brother Arbaaz Khan came forward and donated bone marrow.”
At that time, Salman said that the number of bone marrow donors in India is very low. He told the media, “There are only five thousand bone marrow donors in our country. Not just lack of awareness. There are also mental issues. We also have responsibility for those who are affected by this disease. So donate bone marrow and save lives.”
Salman confidently said, “It’s just like a blood test. It doesn’t take much time. I know some people are afraid of taking blood tests. But it is time to be a little bolder to bring about some positive changes.” Actor Sunil Shetty also said, “Salman is very good as a person. What I could do for him! Nothing. He donated bone marrow for someone several years ago. That is why God is with him. God takes care of him. He is God’s beloved child.”
