Saint-Gobain commissions India’s first Near-Net Zero Gypsum Ceiling Tiles plant in Visakhapatnam

Saint-Gobain India Pvt. Ltd.’s Gyproc business has commissioned India’s first Near-Net Zero Gypsum Ceiling Tiles plant in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant step in the company’s push for sustainable construction and local manufacturing. The facility, commissioned in December 2025, aims to strengthen the company’s production capabilities while supporting the government’s Make in India initiative. The state-of-the-art plant has an annual production capacity of 5 million square metres and will manufacture Gyprex® PVC Laminated Gypsum Ceiling Tiles designed for commercial and institutional applications. Equipped with advanced manufacturing systems, including a modern dust collection mechanism, the plant focuses on operational efficiency, workplace safety, and environmental responsibility.

Sudeep Kolte, Managing Director of Saint-Gobain Gyproc India, said the investment will enhance the company’s ability to deliver low-carbon ceiling solutions closer to key markets. “The Vizag plant reflects our long-term strategy of integrating sustainable manufacturing with operational excellence to meet the evolving needs of commercial and institutional segments,” he said. The products manufactured at the facility comply with BS EN 520 and BS EN 14190 standards, ensuring durability and performance while aligning with Saint-Gobain’s global roadmap to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2050.

In Kolkata, the eastern region is witnessing steady demand for modern interior construction solutions in commercial spaces, hospitals, and institutional buildings. The new Vizag plant is expected to improve supply efficiency and product availability in the Kolkata market and nearby eastern states, helping contractors and developers access high-performance ceiling solutions more quickly.
