Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N. F. Railway detected 27 cases related to theft of passenger belongings during January to November this year and apprehended 31 persons in charge of stealing. The cases were detected during different search and checks at stations and trains over N. F. Railway. RPF also apprehended one person in a recent case from Katihar railway station.
In an incident, on 23.12.2021, as per information received from Security Control/Alipurduar Jn regarding left behind of a backpack containing valuable documents in coach No B-3, berth No. 32 of train no. 15959 UP. RPF staff of RPF Out Post/Falakata attended /checked in the said train and recovered the same. RPF personnel found PAN Card, Aadhaar card, ATM card, Voter card, battery charger, some used clothes and a wallet containing cash Rs. 2,010/- from the said backpack. Owner of the bag namely, Avik Sarkar was informed over phone and later, the recovered articles were handed over to him (owner) after proper verification.
In another incident on 18/19.12.2021, while ASI/ P.K. Jha of RPF Post, Katihar (East) was checking at Katihar railway station at the arrival of the train No. 15934 (New Tinsukia Express), noticed that one person got down from a coach in a suspicious manner. ASI/ P. K. Jha detained and interrogated the person. During interrogation, the person disclosed his identity as Neeraj Kr. Yadav (39 years), a resident of Kharaiya Basti, Ward. No. 15, P.S: Arraria Nagar, Dist. Arraria (Bihar), was travelling without ticket. On searching him, one mobile phone was found with him, but he could not give any satisfactory reply for the possession of the said mobile phone. Hence, he was apprehended and handed over to OC/GRP/Katihar for further necessary action.
