Road Accident Triggers Violent Clash in Kokrajhar, One De*ad and Four Injured

One person was killed and four others were seriously injured after a violent clash broke out between two groups at Gaurinagar in the Karigaon area of Kokrajhar district on Monday evening, police said.The incident occurred at around 7.30 pm, leading to panic and tension in the locality. The deceased has been identified as Sikhna Jwhwlao Bismit. He was a resident of Bagaribari under Rupsi. According to preliminary information, an altercation between two groups escalated rapidly, turning violent within a short period.Eyewitnesses and local residents said the situation worsened when miscreants set a Scorpio vehicle on fire during the clash. The burning vehicle caused fear among residents and drew a large crowd to the area, further complicating efforts to control the situation.

Four people sustained serious injuries in the incident. They have been identified as Mahesh Murmu, Sunil Murmu, and Jugiraj Brahma. All the injured were taken to Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. Hospital sources said their condition is being closely monitored. Initial reports suggest that the clash may have been triggered by a road accident. It is suspected that the Scorpio vehicle was involved in hitting two individuals, after which tensions rose and the situation spiralled out of control. However, police officials said the exact cause of the violence is yet to be confirmed.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and brought the situation under control. Security has been tightened in and around the area, and an investigation has been launched to identify those involved.
