Riniki Bhuyan Sarma assets surge past ₹32 crore, drive sharp rise in CM family wealth

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has declared a sharp rise in his family’s income in his latest election affidavit, with the combined earnings of him and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma increasing to Rs 35.16 crore in 2026 from Rs 17.27 crore in 2021.The affidavit was filed on March 20 as Sarma submitted his nomination as a BJP candidate from the Jalukbari constituency. The document gives a detailed picture of the assets, income, and liabilities of the Chief Minister and his family over the last five years.According to the affidavit, Sarma’s movable assets stand at Rs 2.36 crore in 2026, compared to Rs 1.72 crore in 2021. He has declared that he does not own any immovable property. His cash in hand is Rs 2.28 lakh, along with bank deposits worth Rs 68.01 lakh. He has not reported any investments in shares, bonds, or mutual funds, and does not hold any life insurance policy.

On the other hand, his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, who is the Managing Director of Pride East Entertainment, has reported total assets worth Rs 32.79 crore in 2026, which is more than double her declared assets of Rs 16.19 crore in 2021. Her assets include both movable and immovable properties.She has Rs 3.16 lakh in cash and bank deposits of Rs 74.85 lakh. In addition, she holds investments worth Rs 5.10 crore in shares, bonds, and mutual funds. She also has a life insurance policy valued at Rs 1.77 crore.In terms of property, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma owns three non-agricultural properties with a combined current market value of Rs 19.25 crore. These include a 12,960 square feet property with a house, an inherited property, and another plot acquired in 2022. The Chief Minister has stated that neither he nor his wife owns any agricultural land.The affidavit also details gold holdings, with Sarma owning 180 grams of gold valued at Rs 25.10 lakh. His wife owns 1,459.221 grams of gold, currently valued at Rs 2.03 crore.

When it comes to vehicles, Sarma has declared that he does not own any, while his wife owns a jeep purchased in 2018 for Rs 21.60 lakh.The liabilities section shows that the Chief Minister has total liabilities of Rs 95.05 lakh. His wife’s liabilities are significantly higher at Rs 15.91 crore.Sarma has listed his source of income as his government salary, while his wife has mentioned salary income from her professional role. The affidavit also notes that their two children are no longer listed as dependents, as both are now adults.The Chief Minister has stated in the affidavit that there are no criminal cases pending against him and that he has not been convicted in any case.
