The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) is set to host the 38th Bar Council of India (BCI) National All India Inter-University Moot Court Competition from January 29 to 31, 2026, marking the first time this prestigious event is held in Northeast India. Organized by the Bar Council of India and the Bar Council of India Trust-Pearl First, the competition will attract law students from across the country, providing a significant platform for aspiring lawyers to develop their skills in legal research, drafting, oral advocacy, and courtroom decorum.
The announcement was made during a press conference at RGU, where several prominent figures from the university, including Prof. A. K. Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, and Prof. Bhuban Chandra Barooah, Dean of the Royal School of Law & Administration, addressed the media. Prof. Buragohain emphasized the event’s importance as a benchmark in legal education, highlighting the rigorous nature of the competition that will reflect excellence and professionalism within the legal field.
The moot court rounds will involve assessment by an esteemed panel comprising judges, senior advocates from the Gauhati High Court, and distinguished academicians from leading law schools. So far, 65 teams have registered to participate in the event. Notably, the Final Round will be attended by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kalyan Rai Surana and Mr. Dilip Majumdar, alongside Dr. Shaiwal Satyarthi from the University of Delhi.
The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for January 30, will feature Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, as the chief guest, accompanied by Apurba Kumar Sharma, Senior Advocate and Chairman of the Bar Council of India. Advocate Rakhee Sirauthia Chowdhury highlighted the opportunity this competition presents for Guwahati to establish itself as a pivotal center for legal education and advocacy in the country. The final day will conclude with a valedictory ceremony attended by Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, and addresses by distinguished legal figures such as Manan Kumar Mishra, senior advocate and Chairman of the Bar Council of India.
