According to the research, Kolkata disapproves of the overuse of jargon in the workplace, with 82% of professionals agreeing that those with an understanding of workplace jargon are likely to get ahead. 43% of professionals have felt isolated in the workplace without the know-how of jargon. Some terms and phrases are more difficult to decode, such as ‘Take offline’, ‘win-win situation’, and ‘disruptive innovation’. The research found that Indians find jargon in the workplace confusing, with ‘keep me in the loop’ being the most confusing.

Nirajita Banerjee, LinkedIn Career Expert and India Managing Editor says, “Linguistic habits and preferences vary greatly in India. So, when you’re working with teams that have different functions, and are spread across borders, it’s crucial to use simpler and more inclusive language so there’s less or no room for misinterpretation. By avoiding too much jargon and using clear language, we create an environment where everyone feels more included, which leads to greater productivity, stronger teams, and positive work culture.”
