Renault launches Duster strong hybrid in India with 29 kmpl mileage

Renault India has introduced its Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 technology in the new Renault Duster, marking a significant step in the company’s electrification strategy. The SUV combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine, two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery to deliver a combined output of 160 PS and peak motor torque of 208 Nm.

The hybrid system offers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 kmpl and enables up to 80% of city driving in pure electric mode. Its Formula 1-inspired multi-mode automatic transmission features two electric gears and four petrol gears, enabling 15 drive combinations. The self-charging system eliminates the need for external charging infrastructure.

The Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 is available in Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants, priced at ₹16.99 lakh, ₹18.99 lakh and ₹19.49 lakh, respectively, ex-showroom. Bookings are open through authorised dealerships and Renault’s official website. The company has also introduced the Protect 360 ownership programme, starting at ₹89,900, offering insurance, maintenance and an assured resale value of 60% after three years.

In Guwahati, the hybrid SUV could attract customers seeking improved fuel efficiency, automatic transmission and lower running costs amid growing interest in fuel-efficient vehicles. Its ability to operate in electric mode during city driving may appeal to urban commuters, while its SUV capabilities could suit longer journeys across Assam and the Northeast. However, its market response will depend on affordability, ownership costs and customer acceptance of hybrid technology.
