Renault clarifies ownership of Chennai manufacturing facility

Renault Group has clarified that its manufacturing facility in Chennai has been fully owned by the company since September 2025, urging stakeholders and the media to refer to the plant accurately in future communications.

The company said the facility, which manufactures vehicles for both Renault and Nissan, continues to be occasionally described as the “Nissan plant” or “Nissan factory”. However, Renault stated that such references are no longer factually correct as the Chennai manufacturing facility is now a Renault-owned plant.

According to the company, the facility produces vehicles for both Renault and Nissan for the domestic market as well as for exports, reflecting the collaborative manufacturing arrangement between the two automakers despite the change in ownership.

Renault said the clarification has been issued to ensure accurate references to the facility in future reports, communications and media coverage.

The company further emphasised that the Chennai manufacturing site remains a key pillar of Renault Group’s operations in India. It said the facility plays a crucial role in supporting the company’s long-term growth strategy, localisation initiatives and export ambitions, reinforcing Renault’s commitment to strengthening its manufacturing footprint and expanding its presence in the Indian and global automotive markets.
