Regulatory crackdown on surveillance systems puts spotlight on data security and trust

Amid tightening regulatory scrutiny on surveillance systems in India, Pushkar Gokhale, Business Head – Security Solutions Business at Godrej Enterprises Group, has said the recent actions mark a critical turning point for the country’s security industry.

In a statement, Gokhale noted that in sensitive categories like CCTV, where data protection and national security intersect, “trust and accountability cannot be optional.” He highlighted that Indian brands have gained credibility by aligning with local regulations, strengthening data security practices, and maintaining consistent product quality and service support.

The development comes at a time when concerns around data vulnerabilities and supply chain transparency are intensifying. Gokhale emphasised that modern security solutions now go beyond basic monitoring, reflecting a broader shift in the industry.

He further pointed to the evolving framework under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which mandates that user consent must be free, informed, and unambiguous. In surveillance systems, this requires organisations to be transparent about how data is collected, stored, and used.

Reaffirming the company’s position, Gokhale said Godrej remains focused on delivering reliable, responsible, and India-focused security solutions, aimed at ensuring long-term safety and customer trust.
