Redmi has officially revealed the India launch date of its upcoming Redmi 17 5G smartphone. The device is scheduled to launch in the country on September 3, ending the speculation around its India debut. Ahead of the launch, Redmi has also started teasing the handset through a dedicated microsite.
The India variant will come with a notable upgrade over the global model in terms of battery capacity. While the international version packs a 7,500mAh battery, the Redmi 17 5G launching in India will feature a larger 7,900mAh battery.
The smartphone will be sold via Amazon and will be available in three colour options — Absolutely Black, Endless Blue and Eternal Orange. Images shared by Redmi suggest that the Indian model will retain the same design as the global variant, with no major visual changes.
Redmi has not revealed every detail about the handset yet. The company has confirmed that more information will be announced on September 2, just one day before the official launch.
The Redmi 17 5G will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset. The octa-core processor will be paired with a large 6.9-inch flat display featuring support for a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
Battery performance is expected to be one of the phone’s key selling points. Along with the 7,900mAh battery, the device will support 45W wired charging. It will also offer 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing users to use the phone as a power source for other compatible devices.
In terms of cameras, the Redmi 17 5G will feature a dual-camera setup on the rear. The primary sensor will have a 50-megapixel resolution, while Redmi has yet to reveal details about the secondary camera. An LED flash will be placed next to the camera module.
For selfies and video calls, the smartphone will feature an 8-megapixel front-facing camera positioned inside a hole-punch cutout. The display will measure 6.9 inches and offer a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Redmi 17 5G has already made its debut in select international markets. It was launched on August 10 with a starting price of MYR 769, roughly Rs. 18,000, for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant.
According to Redmi, the Indian and global models will have the same specifications and features, apart from the battery capacity. With the India version getting a bigger 7,900mAh battery, long battery life is expected to be one of the major highlights of the smartphone when it launches next week.
