In preparation for the four-day Chhath Puja rites starting on October 25, the Dhubri government, municipal council, town committees, and Dhubri District Chhath Puja Committee are working to clean up about 41 river fronts (ghats) throughout the district. By worshiping the sun’s setting and rising, respectively, the rites would be carried out at the ghats on the evening of October 27 and in the early hours of October 28. The Dhubri district has forty-one ghats, eight of which are in each of the towns of Dhubri and Gauripur. The remaining ghats are spread over Golokganj, Agomoni, Chhoto Guma, Halakura, Sahebganj, Bogribari, Sapatgram, Bilasipara, Chapor, Bahalpur, and so on.
Meanwhile, 460 quintals of wheat that were purchased at a controlled rate from the district administration are being sold to devotees at various locations throughout the Dhubri district, including the Devnagri ME School grounds in Dhubri town, for Rs 21 per kilogram. Sanjit Choudhury, the secretary of the Dhubri District Chhath Puja organization, told The Sentinel that in addition to wheat, the organization also offered other foods at affordable costs. A team that included senior members of the Chhath puja committee, Ward Commissioner of Ward No. 1, Chairman of the Dhubri Municipal Board Dr. Debamoy Sanyal, Dhubri District Additional District Commissioner Pranjal Kumar Das, and others inspected the ghats and assessed the work that needed to be done before the ghat rituals, Choudhury added.
