A bus travelling from Rangamati towards Silchar met with an accident at Berajal in Nilambazar area of Assam’s Sribhumi district after reportedly hitting a pothole on National Highway 8, which connects Assam with Tripura.
According to the information available, the bus suddenly veered off the highway and plunged into a roadside gorge while travelling along the route. The accident occurred during the journey from Rangamati to Silchar.
Initial reports indicate that the vehicle encountered a pothole on the highway before losing control and leaving the road. The bus then fell into the gorge beside the highway.
The accident has once again brought attention to the condition of NH-8 in the area, particularly the presence of potholes along the Assam-Tripura highway. The road is an important route connecting the two states and is regularly used by passenger and commercial vehicles.
Local residents and commuters have previously raised concerns about road conditions in stretches of the highway, particularly where damaged sections can create difficulties for drivers.
Details about the number of passengers travelling on the bus, casualties and injuries were not immediately available. The extent of damage to the vehicle was also yet to be confirmed.
