Telangana Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud along with Cyberabad CP VC Sajjanar warm heartedly welcomed Olympic bronze medallist PV Sindhu after she landed at the Hyderabad airport on Wednesday afternoon.
Sindhu finished third in women’s singles badminton at the Tokyo Olympics after beating China’s He Bing Jiao in straight games in the bronze medal play-off match in Tokyo.
At the airport, while employees, passengers and the CISF cheered for Sindhu, she and the coach were welcomed by Telangana Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud, Sports Authority of Telangana chairman A. Venkateshwar Reddy along with Commissioner Of Police, Cyberabad VC Sajjanar and other officials.
She created a history in Tokyo as she became the only Indian woman to win two Olympic medals. She was the second middle winner at this Olympiad for India after weightlifter Mirabai Chanu.
Sindhu was training under Korean coach Park Tae-sang at Suchitra academy in Hyderabad and students of the academy too celebrated her success at the airport.
She first landed in Delhi from Tokyo and got a similar reception at the airport after which she went to Sports Minister Anurag Thakur’s house for a felicitation ceremony.
Speaking exclusively to India Today after her final match at the Tokyo Games, Sindhu had said that this bronze was tougher to clinch than her silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
