The Assam government will distribute scooters to around 36,000 meritorious students, mostly girls, who have passed higher secondary examinations in this year.
A proposal to implement the program at a cost of Rs 258.9 crore was passed by the state cabinet on Wednesday, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said after a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma.
The minister said the cabinet has decided to make the monthly remuneration of assistant professors working in provincial colleges Rs 55,000 on a permanent salary.
