The release of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 was scheduled for Friday, 5 December, following extensive promotions. However, shortly before its release, it was postponed due to ‘technical issues beyond our control’, which may have been influenced by a court case involving the production house, 14 Reels Entertainment, and Eros.
On the eve of the release of Akhanda 2, Eros International Media Limited announced that the Madras High Court issued an injunction against the film’s release. According to a press statement from Eros, the injunction stems from an appeal related to Eros’s long-standing arbitral award against 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited, where Eros holds an award for a monetary decree of approximately ₹28 crore. Eros requested urgent interim measures from the Court to facilitate the enforcement of this arbitral award.
Eros contended that the efforts of 14 Reels to release Akhanda 2 constituted “an indirect attempt to flout the arbitral award and avoid compliance with legally determined financial obligations.” Consequently, a Division Bench formed by Justice SM Subramaniam and Justice C. Kumarappan issued a ruling that prohibits the release, distribution, or commercial exploitation of Akhanda 2 until further court orders are issued.
On Thursday night, 14 Reels announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the release of #Akhanda2 has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. The statement expressed the company’s deep regret over the situation and acknowledged the disappointment of fans eagerly awaiting the film. 14 Reels mentioned that they are actively working to resolve the issue and apologized for the inconvenience, assuring fans that they will provide a positive update soon.
Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is the sequel to the successful 2021 film Akhanda, directed by Boyapati Srinu. It features Balakrishna alongside Samyuktha, Aadhi Pinishetty, and Harshaali Malhotra in prominent roles. The film’s soundtrack, created by Thaman S, has been well-received by audiences. However, the release date has yet to be officially announced by the producers.
