Priyanka Gandhi Vadra targets government, highlights price rise and jobs crisis in poll push

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Assam on Thursday for a one-day campaign tour ahead of the Assembly elections, with rallies planned in Bokajan and Titabor. According to party leaders, Rahul Gandhi will leave Delhi in the morning and land at Dimapur Airport. From there, he will travel by helicopter to Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district, where he is scheduled to address a public rally. Later in the day, he will head to Titabor in Jorhat district to interact with voters in Upper Assam before returning to Delhi. The visit comes days after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held campaign events in the state. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar had also campaigned earlier, signalling a strong push by the party in the poll-bound state. On Wednesday, several opposition leaders shared the stage at rallies in Upper Assam, including Gaurav Gogoi, Akhil Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi. The joint appearances drew large crowds in places like Nazira, Tingkhong and Khowang.

Addressing the gatherings, Priyanka Gandhi spoke about rising prices, unemployment and the difficulties faced by common people. She said families are struggling with daily expenses, healthcare and education costs. She also raised concerns about job opportunities, saying many young people are forced to leave the state in search of work. She further spoke about the condition of tea garden workers, especially women, highlighting low wages and lack of basic facilities. She also questioned the delay in granting Scheduled Tribe status to six communities. Targeting the government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Priyanka Gandhi alleged corruption and misuse of power, and said public resources were being diverted to benefit a few. She also accused the government of creating fear and suppressing dissent. The Congress leader announced a set of five promises, including financial support for women, help for small businesses, free healthcare up to ₹25 lakh per family, land rights for indigenous people and support for senior citizens.

Meanwhile, APCC president Gaurav Gogoi called the election important for the future of Assam and urged voters to support change. Lurinjyoti Gogoi expressed confidence in forming a new government, while Akhil Gogoi appealed for unity among voters.In Guwahati, Congress leader Pawan Khera also campaigned for party candidates. He addressed public meetings in support of Dispur candidate Mira Borthakur and Dimoria candidate Kishor Baruah, and interacted with traders at Fancy Bazar as part of outreach efforts.
