President Murmu gets an honorable reception as she lands in Suriname

President Droupadi Murmu reached Suriname on Sunday on a three -day visit. She was welcomed by Suriname’s protocol chief and India’s ambassador to Suriname. The purpose of her visit is to strengthen India’s bilateral relations with the South American country. This is the President’s first State visit after assuming office in July last year.

The last time an Indian President visited Suriname was in 2018. In the second phase of her visit, President Murmu will visit Serbia from June 7 to hold a bilateral meeting with Serbian President Alexander Vusic, Prime Minister Ana Branbic, and National Assembly President Vladimir Oralik. She will also address a business program and talk to the Indian community. India and Suriname have close ties due to the Indian diaspora.

The President is accompanied by Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Niranjan Jyoti and Member of Parliament, Rama Devi as part of the official Indian delegation. The President’s official account tweeted “President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Paramaribo, Suriname on her first State Visit as the President of India.
