Prem Singh Tamang visits site of Sikkim’s upcoming Peacock Park

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Thursday conducted a detailed inspection of the ambitious Peacock Park project at Baiguney in Soreng district. The project, which is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹15 crore, is envisioned as a major nature-based attraction aimed at reviving interest in ecological tourism and sustainable development in the region.

During his visit, the Chief Minister was briefed by officials and engineers about the current status of the project. He reviewed detailed layout plans, examined progress on site, and assessed proposed infrastructure and design elements. The site inspection also included interactions with stakeholders and local representatives involved in the development of the park.

Sharing updates on social media, CM Tamang expressed his enthusiasm for the project and emphasized its long-term significance. “This initiative holds great promise in promoting eco-tourism while safeguarding our environment and cultural roots. The Peacock Park will reflect our rich biodiversity and must be built with sustainability at its core,” he stated.

He further added that the park is expected to serve not just as a recreational space for visitors but also as an educational and cultural hub, drawing attention to the region’s flora, fauna, and indigenous heritage. According to the CM, the project will incorporate eco-sensitive design features, making use of natural materials, sustainable landscaping, and cultural motifs that highlight Sikkim’s traditions and environmental values.

Officials shared that the park will include peacock-themed installations, natural trails, viewing decks, water features, and open green spaces to accommodate tourists, nature enthusiasts, and locals alike. The design also seeks to minimize ecological disruption and provide livelihood opportunities for nearby communities through tourism-linked activities.

“The integration of local culture with nature-based tourism is a vital step forward in our vision for a greener, prosperous Sikkim,” Tamang noted while engaging with engineers and project teams. He urged all departments involved to expedite the work without compromising on quality or sustainability standards.
