Prem Singh Tamang leads celebrations for SKM’s 16th Rolu Diwas

The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is celebrating its 16th Rolu Diwas today with fervor at the Rolu Mandir premises in the Melli constituency, Namchi district. The event holds both religious and political significance for the people of Sikkim, and party workers have been working tirelessly to ensure its success. Rolu Diwas originated on December 21, 2009, when the Rolu Mandir became the birthplace of the “Parivartan movement” led by Prem Singh Tamang, now the Chief Minister of Sikkim. At that time, Tamang was an MLA with the Sikkim Democratic Front. The movement, marked by the slogan “Parivartan,” ultimately led to the victory of SKM in 2019.

SKM Secretary General Arun Upreti emphasized the importance of Rolu Diwas, describing it as a momentous occasion blending religious rituals with cultural programs. “The event, with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang as the chief guest, is eagerly awaited by the people, who look forward to announcements for public welfare,” Upreti said. Political Secretary to Chief Minister and SKM spokesperson Bikash Basnett highlighted the significance of the day, calling it the foundation of the party’s journey. “This event marks the vision and revolution that SKM stands for, led by our leader CM Prem Singh Tamang,” Basnett stated. He also praised the party’s governance over the past five years, noting advancements in health, education, and infrastructure.

Rolu Diwas is celebrated with the same enthusiasm as major religious festivals like Dashain and Tihar by SKM members. Despite challenges faced when the party was in opposition, it has consistently observed this day. “This festival symbolizes our determination and commitment to the people of Sikkim,” Basnett added.
