Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang emphasized unity and cultural preservation while addressing the state-level Gurung Tamu Lochar Festival 2024-25 on January 3. Highlighting the importance of such programs for community development, Tamang expressed his deep respect for the Gurung community. “Today, I am here not just to console you but to honor the Gurung community. Events like these play a vital role in fostering development,” said the Chief Minister. Tamang underscored the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government’s commitment to the Gurung community’s progress.
He assured that the initiatives taken under SKM’s leadership would bear fruit in the coming decades, with more Gurung individuals excelling in various fields. Calling for global unity among Gurung communities, Tamang said, “Once united, the Gurung community will achieve unstoppable progress. Preserving our culture and heritage is crucial, and this festival serves as a platform to instill pride in our youth.”
He also announced a government grant of ₹75 lakh for the construction of a new Gumpa, ensuring adequate land for the project. Stressing the importance of unity, Tamang encouraged the merger of Gurung committees for greater strength and cohesion.
