Matter of alert for Assam as its rate of teenage pregnancy from child marriage is 16.8%. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expresses concern through his tweet on Monday.
According to the sources, the total 620,867 total pregnancies reported in the year 2022, 104,264 were teenage mothers which ratio is 16.8%.
Barpeta tops the list with 28.7%, followed by Dhubri and South Salmara (27.9%) and Goalpara (24.1%). Tinsukia registered the lowest rate of teenage pregnancy with 8.4%.
The crackdown against Child marriage began on February 3, 2023, since then Assam Police have continuously registered cases from different districts of the state with increasing number each day.
So far 4,000 cases are registered in the state with number of teenage pregnancy.
