Efforts to form an alliance between the Congress and Raijor Dal in Assam for the 2026 Assembly elections have faced a significant setback, as Raijor Dal criticized the Indian National Congress for “unilateral decision-making, arrogance, and deliberately sabotaging” talks. Led by Akhil Gogoi, Raijor Dal stated that they were formally excluded from the proposed opposition alliance during a recent four-party meeting in Guwahati, which they view as the collapse of negotiations. The party condemned the conduct of Assam PCC chief Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of exhibiting an “arrogant attitude” and lacking genuine interest in creating a cohesive anti-BJP coalition. Raijor Dal claimed they were not included in the alliance meeting and media conference on March 6, describing this exclusion as “deeply disrespectful” and highlighting that Gaurav Gogoi’s demeanor indicated a lack of commitment to an inclusive opposition. The dispute largely revolves around seat sharing for the upcoming elections, with Raijor Dal asserting that the Congress’s actions have diminished their bargaining power from 27 seats to just four.
