Post Melone to perform in Guwahati today; Assam CM welcomes artist

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday spoke to the media ahead of international star Post Malone’s live concert in Guwahati, calling the event a “rare occasion” for the state. “This is in fact a rare occasion for our state. Post Malone is an artist whose influence spans the entire globe. He is ranked among the top musicians worldwide. Two days ago, I watched his show in Abu Dhabi — it was electrifying, the kind of crowd present was overwhelming,” the Chief Minister said. “For the first time, Assam is going to witness the performance of a global artist. This is a unique occasion. I welcome him to the land of Assam and hope the event passes peacefully.”

The Chief Minister further revealed that discussions had also taken place regarding bringing global pop sensation Shakira to Assam. “We had a little bit of discussion about Shakira, but not much. Let it come naturally. But I feel like bringing Shakira to Guwahati. Next year or the year after, we will try to bring her here,” he said. He added that although there was an opportunity in February, it could not be finalized. “It may take about 2–3 years. But I want to bring Shakira to Guwahati, and also bring such big artists to Dibrugarh and Silchar.”

Sarma reiterated that Assam is on track to build a strong concert economy. “In the next 2–3 years, Guwahati will emerge as a major hub for concerts. I also wish the same for Shillong. Shillong and Guwahati are almost twin towns — both cities will grow together.”
