Police seize Rs 70 lakh in fake currency from Guwahati Bus Terminal

In a significant operation, Guwahati Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) intercepted Rs 70 lakh in counterfeit currency at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). Acting on a tip-off, officers conducted a swift raid, detaining Hafiz Ali from Gogamukh in Dhemaji district, suspected of involvement in the smuggling attempt.

The fake currency, reportedly transported from Bandardewa to Guwahati on a night bus, was skillfully concealed among passenger luggage to avoid detection. Initial findings indicate the involvement of an organized syndicate engaged in circulating fake currency across multiple regions. Authorities are now pursuing further investigations to uncover additional links and operatives within the network.

This seizure marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against counterfeit currency operations in the region, and security checks are expected to intensify following this raid.
