Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the coronavirus pandemic has severely tested the resilience of countries across the world while asserting that India’s response to the deadly infection is a “people’s movement. Addressing the High-Level Segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council Session 2020 via video conference, PM Modi said that India’s grass-roots health system has helped the country ensure “one of the best recovery rates in the world”. India has always prided itself as the first responder in the region – a friend in need noting that a SAARC COVID emergency fund has been created to help countries fight the crisis”. The Prime Minister further noted that India firmly believes that path to achieve sustainable peace and prosperity is through multilateralism, adding that New Delhi has extended help to over 150 countries across the world amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
