PM Modi releases ₹2,000 aid to 32,190 farmers in Sikkim

More than 32,190 farmers in Sikkim have received financial support under the 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. The installment was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, as part of a nationwide disbursement of ₹20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.53 crore eligible farmers. This direct financial transfer of ₹2,000 per farmer is part of the annual ₹6,000 assistance provided in three equal installments under the scheme. The money is meant to support basic farming needs such as purchasing seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs.

In Sikkim, the number of farmers benefitting from this installment has seen a significant jump—from 12,994 in the previous cycle to more than 32,190 now. This increase reflects the government’s focused efforts to extend its reach to more farmers, especially in remote areas of the country.Farmers from all six districts of Sikkim joined the virtual release event and expressed their gratitude to the Centre. A farmer from Namchi district shared, “This scheme is a real help. It boosts our confidence to invest in our land and gives timely support during the farming season.”

Local leaders also welcomed the initiative. Lalit Pokhrel Sharma, In-charge of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Sikkim, said, “PM-KISAN is not just a scheme, it is a message of care and trust. It shows how the government is committed to farmers and rural development.”The scheme also plays a key role in promoting transparency and reducing dependency on middlemen, ensuring that farmers receive direct benefits without delays. It complements other agriculture-related initiatives like the PM Fasal Bima Yojana, Soil Health Card Scheme, e-NAM, and the Kisan Credit Card.
