Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday floated the concept of “One Nation, One Police Uniform”. He was addressing a conference of state home ministers on internal security in Faridabad, Haryana.
Mr Modi said he was not imposing his views on the states, but it was an idea worth thinking about. He said there should be a brand recall of police uniforms like the country’s red and black post boxes.
“For the police, ‘one nation, one uniform’ is just a concept. I’m not trying to force it on you. Just give it a thought. It can happen, it can happen in 5, 50 or 100 years. All states should think about it,” the Prime Minister said. He also added, “Just like a post box has a distinct identity, the police uniform should be uniformly identifiable across the country.”
The Prime Minister pointed out that India currently has a ‘One Country, One Ration’ card; ‘One Nation, One Mobility’ card; ‘One Nation, One Grid’ and ‘One Nation, One Sign Language’. He said, “One nation, one uniform” should be thought deeply.
