PM Modi Makes Historic Highway Landing at Moran, Unveils Northeast’s First Emergency Landing Facility

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) located on a National Highway at the Moran bypass in Upper Assam, marking a historic moment as it is the first instance of a Prime Minister’s aircraft landing on a national highway. He traveled on the Indian Air Force’s C-130J Hercules transport aircraft. Following his landing, fighter jets including Sukhoi-30MKI and Rafale conducted flight demonstrations along the highway, alongside various other aircraft and helicopters from the Indian Air Force. This National Highway 127 has the capacity to accommodate fighter aircraft up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft up to 74 tonnes. The ELF is strategically vital for emergencies and military operations. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, who presented tactical demonstrations, including helicopter evacuations of injured personnel. Air Force officials provided a detailed audio-visual briefing on the ELF’s strategic importance. The Prime Minister later departed for Guwahati on a US-made C-130J Hercules aircraft from the highway.
