PM Modi Flags Off Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, Launches Multiple Development Projects in Guwahati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a Rs 3,030-crore six-lane bridge on the Brahmaputra River, connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati. The event, attended by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saw Modi walk on the bridge, which is currently open only for pedestrians; vehicular traffic will start from March 1. This bridge is the first extradosed structure in Northeast India, designed to reduce travel time to seven minutes. It employs base isolation technology for seismic safety, high-performance stay cables for durability, and includes a Bridge Health Monitoring System (BHMS) for real-time monitoring. Additionally, Modi inaugurated the National Data Centre at Amingaon, which will support government applications and act as a Disaster Recovery centre, and launched the temporary campus of IIM Guwahati. He also flagged off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, aimed at enhancing urban mobility and benefiting over 50 lakh citizens in Guwahati, Nagpur, Bhavnagar, and Chandigarh. Modi is set to conclude his visit with a BJP rally in Khanapara, Guwahati.
