PM dedicates major energy initiatives worth Rs 4,027 crore to boost cleaner fuel and economic growth in Bihar

In a significant move towards sustainable energy and industrial growth, Prime Minister inaugurated several initiatives in the petroleum and natural gas sector worth ₹4,027 crore on November 13. These projects, aligned with the Make in India vision, aim to provide cleaner energy solutions and foster domestic production capabilities in Bihar, enhancing local infrastructure and economic potential.

Among the key projects is Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.’s (BPCL) City Gas Distribution (CGD) network across Darbhanga, Madhubani, Supaul, Sitamarhi, and Sheohar. With an investment of ₹3,638 crore, the CGD network will deliver piped natural gas (PNG) to households and industries, promoting cleaner energy usage across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. This expansion also includes new CNG stations and a robust pipeline network from Begusarai, supporting the government’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.

Darbhanga, known for its growing demand for cleaner, sustainable energy, stands to benefit considerably from this initiative. The project promises reliable, low-emission fuel access for local businesses, enhancing both operational efficiency and environmental sustainability in the region. The CGD network is expected to provide a significant boost to Darbhanga’s commercial landscape by lowering energy costs and ensuring sustainable growth for local enterprises. Additionally, the new ₹389 crore Bitumen Manufacturing Unit at the Barauni Refinery, an Indian Oil project, will domestically produce bitumen, reducing dependence on imports and supporting infrastructure projects like the Bharatmala Pariyojana. This will not only conserve foreign exchange but also ensure timely availability of materials essential for national infrastructure development.
