Peren CSOs oppose ‘chakka bandh’: Nagaland

Peren district civil society organizations (CSOs) through the presidents of Zeliangrong Baudi (N) C.R. Zeliang, Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation Kevipele Iheilung and Zeme Council (N) Dr. Tumda Newme have opposed and took strong exception to the proposed indefinite ‘chakka bandh’, from February 22 on Mhainamtsi-Pimla and Mhainamtsi-Jharnapani roads, allegedly called by “an unknown illegal Aqahuto area organisations”.

In a representation to the Commissioner Nagaland, the CSOs, while appreciating the democratic means of protest against the state government for any unmet demands by any citizens of the state, however claimed that there was no area called Aqahuto within the ancestral Zeliang Naga land who shared traditional and time honoured boundary with Chakhro Angami.

The signatories also reminded that the CSOs had “heartily pursued and engaged on inter-tribal organisations to bring about permanent trust between communities” for peaceful coexistence by bringing about due honour to each other’s customs as Naga family. However, they said that their sincere reciprocation of peaceful coexistence was “ditched by throttling the district blocking both the routes of accessibility within the ancestral land of Zeliang Naga.

In this regard, the CSOs have urged the state government authority “to avert such illegal activities on the district.” They also warned that the CSOs should not be held responsible for any consequences in case of any situation that may arises as the fallout.
