The Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) has launched the 8th Edition of its “Discover Penang” roadshow, targeting India’s booming tourism and business event markets. Running from January 13 to 20, the roadshow spans Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai, drawing 200 buyers and 30 media representatives in each city.
Key highlights include IndiGo Airlines’ new direct flight between Penang and Chennai, enhancing connectivity for passengers from 32 Indian cities, including Kolkata. This development simplifies travel for leisure and business travelers, offering a 30kg baggage allowance and boosting access to Penang’s diverse attractions. Additionally, Malaysia’s visa exemption for Indian nationals until December 31, 2026, provides seamless entry for up to 30 days.
With a rising appetite for international travel, Kolkata is poised to benefit from these initiatives. The city’s robust travel industry is expected to leverage Penang’s appeal as a hub for cultural experiences and business events, fostering deeper ties and economic opportunities for both regions. In 2024, Malaysia welcomed over 1 million Indian visitors, a 71.7% rise from 2023. With Penang hosting nearly 1,900 events and generating RM1.27 billion in economic impact, the roadshow positions Penang as a premier destination for Indian tourists and business stakeholders alike.
