Paytm has partnered with Kolkata Metro to introduce mobile QR ticket booking on its app ahead of Durga Puja 2026, targeting increased demand for convenient public transport during the festive season. The service will allow passengers to book journeys between any two metro stations, receive QR tickets on their mobile phones and scan them directly at entry gates, reducing the need to queue at ticket counters.
One 97 Communications Limited, which operates Paytm, has secured exclusive mobile ticketing rights for at least one year under the partnership. Kolkata Metro will promote the service through its official communication channels, while Paytm branding will be displayed across all 57 stations. Paytm is a digital payments platform serving merchants, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and also operates in financial services distribution.
A Paytm spokesperson said the initiative would improve travel convenience when millions of people visit Kolkata to celebrate Durga Puja. The service is expected to benefit commuters travelling to Esplanade, Salt Lake Sector V, Howrah and Sealdah, as well as pandal areas near Kalighat and SovabazarSutanuti. Kolkata Metro, India’s first metro railway, is operated directly by the Central Government.
In Kolkata, the partnership highlights the growing convergence of digital payments, mobility and festive-season consumer activity. With passenger numbers expected to rise during Durga Puja, app-based ticketing could improve convenience while strengthening Paytm’s visibility and adoption in the city’s transport ecosystem.
To book tickets, users must select ‘Metro’ on Paytm, choose ‘Kolkata Metro’ and ‘Metro QR Ticket’, enter their source and destination, select the passenger count, complete payment and access the QR code through ‘View Ticket’.
