Patna Concludes G20 Labor Summit

The G20 Labor Summit in Patna concluded on June 23, 2023, with deliberations on migrant labor, universal social security, women, and work’s future. The summit attracted 28 countries’ representatives, trade union leaders, experts, academics, and government officials.

KK Tiwari, Senior Trade Union leader of the Indian National Trade Union Congress, lauded the BMS and affiliated unions at the national level for the democratic and successful organization of Labour20. The delegates expressed their solidarity with each other at the Ashoka Convention Center in Patna. On the last day, experts presented papers on various issues. While addressing the meeting, Labor expert Ravi Raman said, “The global scenario of work migration has changed due to the introduction of artificial intelligence and information and communication technology.”

During the G20 Labor Summit, a resolution was adopted, highlighting consensus on key issues. The Troika countries, Indonesia, India, and Brazil issued a joint statement. Hiranmoy Pandya, Labor 20 group chairman, handed over leadership to Ruth Coelho Monteiro, Brazil’s next chairperson. The G20 delegates visited Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Gurdwara in Patna Sahib. Guests from India and abroad visited Bihar for cultural programs and a visit to ancient Nalanda University.
