Over 700 Students Attend ADSU Meet in Dibrugarh; New 60-Member Committee Formed

The All Dibrugarh Students’ Union (ADSU) held its Executive Committee Meeting along with an Agenda Selection Meeting at the Lalchand Kanai Auditorium of Hanumanbax Surajmal Kanai College in Dibrugarh. The meeting saw large participation from student representatives across the district, reflecting strong involvement and interest among the student community.The programme began at 11 am with the hoisting of the ADSU flag by union president Tanuj Haloi. This was followed by a tribute to martyrs led by general secretary Papu Saikia. The opening session was calm and respectful, setting a serious and focused mood for the discussions that followed.During the day-long meeting, members discussed several important issues related to students and society in Dibrugarh. The discussions mainly focused on education, student welfare, cultural activities, and civic problems faced by students and the general public. Members spoke in detail about the need to improve educational facilities, address student-related problems, and protect local culture and traditions.Participants also raised concerns about basic civic issues such as cleanliness, sanitation, and public amenities in the town. Many members stressed the need for better coordination with local authorities so that student-related demands and public issues can be addressed in a timely and effective manner.

The meeting, chaired by president Tanuj Haloi, concluded with the unanimous adoption of four resolutions. These resolutions focused on key issues affecting students and the town of Dibrugarh. Union leaders said the resolutions would guide ADSU’s activities in the coming months and help the organisation work in a planned and organised manner.Alongside the main meeting, the Agenda Selection Meeting led to the formation of a new ADSU committee. Senior members Rupjyoti Borthakur, Raja Gogoi, Manoj Burhagohain, Rituraj Mili, Tanuj Haloi, and Papu Saikia were appointed as advisors to the new committee. Their role will be to guide the leadership and ensure continuity in the union’s work. A new 60-member committee was constituted during the meeting. Priyapratim Sonowal was appointed as president, while Sandam Sonowal was named general secretary. The committee includes members from different educational institutions across the district and is expected to work towards implementing the adopted resolutions and addressing student concerns at the grassroots level.

The meeting was attended by Bulbul Dutta, organising secretary of the All Assam Students’ Union, AASU central executive member Sauravjyoti Barphukan, and district-level student leaders Labdhapratim Das, Bitupan Changmai, and Bitupan Gogoi, general secretary of the Dibrugarh District Students’ Union. Their presence highlighted coordination among various student organisations.More than 700 students from schools, colleges, and primary students’ unions across Dibrugarh took part in the meeting. The large turnout reflected ADSU’s strong grassroots support and its continued relevance in raising student issues and contributing to the educational and civic development of the district.
