More than 50 families have been affected after water flowing down from the Karbi Hills inundated residential areas in Bhatabari under Bamuni in Assam’s Kaliabor following incessant rainfall since the night of September 22.
According to local residents, heavy rainfall triggered a sudden rise in the volume of water descending from the hill areas, leading to widespread flooding in homes and agricultural fields. Several houses have been submerged, with floodwaters reportedly reaching knee level inside some residences.
As water levels continued to rise, many residents were forced to leave their homes and seek shelter along roadside areas and other higher grounds to ensure their safety.
The flooding has also caused significant damage to agricultural land, while several families have reportedly lost livestock, adding to the hardships faced by the affected households.
Residents said that such a flooding situation has been witnessed in the area after nearly 15 years, making the current inundation a matter of serious concern for the local community.
Meanwhile, authorities are closely monitoring the situation as floodwaters continue to affect both residential and farming areas. Local residents have urged the administration to provide timely relief and assistance to those impacted by the flood.
