Netflix has announced that its upcoming military drama *Operation SafedSagar*, inspired by one of the Indian Air Force’s most significant wartime operations during the 1999 Kargil War, will premiere globally on August 7. The series is based on the untold story of the Golden Arrows Squadron and highlights the courage, sacrifice and determination of IAF personnel during one of the world’s highest air wars.
Directed by Oni Sen and created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and KushalSrivastava, the series features Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, AbhayVerma, DiaMirza, PrajaktaKoli, AdilHussain, MihirAhuja, TaarukRaina, ArnavBhasin and Amrita Bagchi. Netflix India said the series is the platform’s first war drama inspired by the Indian Air Force’s role in the Kargil conflict and aims to present an authentic portrayal of air force pilots through large-scale production and visual effects.
The creators said the project draws on KushalSrivastava’s experience in the Indian Air Force and was filmed across more than 100 locations, including sites above 16,000 feet, while balancing large-scale military action with personal stories of leadership, friendship and sacrifice. Matchbox Shots said the series seeks to bring an important chapter of India’s military history to audiences with honesty and cinematic scale.
The announcement is expected to generate strong interest among viewers in Kolkata, a city with a large audience for patriotic dramas, military history and premium streaming content. Industry observers believe the release could further boost engagement with OTT platforms in eastern India, where demand for high-quality Indian originals continues to grow.
