Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reiterated its commitment to sustainable mobility on World Biofuel Day 2024, promoting a transition to biofuels as a key strategy in reducing fossil fuel dependence. Aligning with Toyota’s global goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, TKM is advancing the adoption of Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) and Flex Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India.
India’s growing energy demands have led to record crude oil imports, with the transportation sector contributing 50% of oil consumption. TKM is leveraging India’s ethanol production potential to address this issue. Ethanol blending reached 15.90% in June 2024, with the country on track to achieve 20% blending by 2025, resulting in significant foreign exchange savings and reduced carbon emissions.
In Imphal, TKM’s focus on biofuels aligns with local efforts to enhance economic growth through sustainable energy. The adoption of biofuels is expected to create new market opportunities for local farmers and businesses, boosting the region’s agrarian economy.Vikram Gulati, TKM’s Executive Vice President, emphasized that biofuels are pivotal in achieving India’s energy security and environmental goals, positioning TKM at the forefront of the sustainable mobility revolution.
