Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Vindhyavasini Temple in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday night, where he conducted rituals after paying respects to Goddess Vindhyavasini, accompanied by local MLA Ratnakar Mishra. In response to inquiries about former Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Bora’s resignation, Sarma indicated he would meet with Bora on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of his joining the BJP. Addressing concerns regarding alleged polarisation ahead of Assam’s Assembly elections, Sarma noted the demographic changes in the state, stating that approximately 40 percent of the population is Muslim, with nearly 36 percent having migrated from Bangladesh during various periods, particularly under Congress governance.
