Officials review the Sevoke-Rangpo Railway Project’s progress in High-Level Meeting

The Tashiling Secretariat hosted a major review meeting to assess the Sevoke-Rangpo Railway Project’s (SRRP) continued development. Senior officials from several state government ministries as well as representatives from the North East Frontier Railway (NFR), including Hitendra Goyal, CAO/NFR, and Renya Eta, CGM (IRCON), attended the meeting, which was presided over by Chief Secretary R. Telang (IAS). The development of infrastructure, project schedules, and the difficulties faced during implementation were among the main topics of discussion at the meeting.

The 45-kilometer railway line from Sevoke to Rangpo has accomplished more than 70% of its physical progress, according to an update given by officials. By December 2027, the line—which would serve both passenger and freight trains—should be finished, greatly improving regional connectivity. The construction of the Sevoke station yard is one of the project’s major achievements, and Rangpo is set to receive a top-notch railway station. Future stages of the project were also explored. It is anticipated that Phase 2 will increase accessibility to the Sikkim capital by extending the railway line from Rangpo to Gangtok. Another development that was emphasized as strategically significant was phase 3, which suggests an extension to Nathula. Chief Secretary R. Telang emphasized how crucial the project is to improving regional connectivity and supporting the state’s economic development.
