One of the accused arrested in connection with a robbery, was shot and injured by police when he allegedly tried to escape from custody. The injured accused, identified as Madhab Das, and two others — Subhash Das and Kartik Sharma Lakhon — were arrested by police for their alleged role in a robbery incident at Nirupama Enclave at Bertola area of Guwahati on the night of January 30. Police said they recovered cash amounting to Rs 15.56 lakh from the accused. Preliminary investigation indicated that Madhab Das was the alleged mastermind behind the robbery, police said. During a follow-up operation at 10th Mile in the early hours today, Madhab Das sustained bullet wounds after police opened fire when he allegedly tried to escape. He was later taken into custody and provided medical attention, and further investigation into the case is underway.
