The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has concluded its inaugural deep-dive workshops aimed at enhancing knowledge across various sectors of the Indian industry. Held over two days in Mumbai on April 3, 2024, and New Delhi on April 5, 2024, these workshops titled ‘Deep Dive in Green, Social, and Sustainability (GSS) Bonds Issuance Process’ were conducted in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Climate Bond Initiative (CBI), sponsored by HSBC, and The Kingdom of the Netherlands.More than just informational sessions, the workshops provided a platform for industry leaders and policymakers to discuss and leverage the potential of GSS bonds in shaping a sustainable future for markets and society. Attendees from finance, real sectors, and various industries participated in expert-led sessions focusing on topics such as the issuance process of GSS bonds and their role in financing green infrastructure.
Emphasizing the significance of GSS bonds in addressing climate change challenges, Shri K Rajaraman, Chairperson of IFSCA, highlighted the importance of embracing sustainable financial instruments. He stated, “Today’s training event represents a pivotal initiative, enhancing awareness and preparedness among individuals and organizations to effectively navigate this landscape.”The workshops also featured insights from key figures such as Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary – Planning and CEO, Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance (CPPGG), Government of Uttarakhand, and Smt. Shalini Agrawal, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Surat Municipal Corporation, who emphasized the transformative potential of GSS instruments in sustainable urban development.
Ms. Wendy Jo Werner, India Country Head of IFC, expressed commitment to catalyzing the sustainable finance market in India, while Zalina Shamsudin, Head of Technical Assistance and Capacity Building at Climate Bonds Initiative, praised the collaboration as a pivotal stride towards empowering market stakeholders with necessary knowledge and tools.Shri Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD & CEO of NSE, hailed the workshops as a critical step towards closing India’s climate financing gap and emphasized the importance of aligning financial mechanisms with environmental and social goals.
