NSCN(K) cadre arrested in Jorhat after secret tip-off

A hardcore cadre of the banned outfit NSCN (K), Nikki Sumi faction, was apprehended by security forces in Assam’s Jorhat district while attempting to flee to Dimapur. The arrest, which followed a tip-off from Military Intelligence (Kolkata), also led to the discovery of a secret hideout in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint team comprising personnel of the 44 Assam Rifles (Khonsa) and Arunachal Pradesh Police, with assistance from the Jorhat Police, launched a meticulously planned operation. The suspect was intercepted at Teok in Jorhat district while on his way to Dimapur by road. Security officials described the arrested individual as a hardcore operative of the NSCN(K) faction led by Nikki Sumi.

During preliminary questioning, the insurgent revealed crucial details about a concealed location linked to insurgent activities in Tirap district. Acting on this information, the joint forces conducted a follow-up raid in the remote area of Arunachal Pradesh. The raid resulted in the seizure of arms, ammunition, and materials suspected to be used for extortion operations carried out by the faction.

The arrested cadre is currently in custody and is being interrogated further. Authorities believe that the NSCN(K) faction has been attempting to re-establish its foothold in sensitive border areas by engaging in illegal activities, including extortion and arms smuggling.
