NRC declared for a Assam man after 5 years

NRC was first published in 1951 in Assam. It was updated in 2019 to identify and remove undocumented immigrants from the citizenship list.

A 40-year-old resident of Assam was declared an undocumented immigrant 5 years ago. The Gauhati High Court canceled that announcement on Tuesday.

A division bench of Justices Achintya Malla Bujor Barua and Arun Deb Chaudhary cited the material and said that Md Jamir Ali was wrongly declared a foreigner, who entered Assam after March 24, 1971.

According to sources, Ali approached the High Court after he was declared an undocumented immigrant in June 2018. A case was filed against him in 2009 in this regard.

According to the evidence, the petitioner established his relationship with Abbas Ali as his father, whose name appeared in the 1965 electoral roll.

“The materials through which the link was established were not noted by the tribunal,” the court said.
