Norton Motorcycles’ flagship superbike, the Norton Manx R, has won the Bronze award at the 2026 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), becoming the first production combustion-engined sports motorcycle to receive the recognition.
The Manx R was honoured in the Automotive and Transportation category at the awards organised by the Industrial Designers Society of America. The award was received by Darren McNeill, Head of Marketing at Norton US, during the IDEA Ceremony and Gala in Pasadena, California.
Designed under Norton’s new Resurgence strategy, the Manx R adopts a reductive design approach, moving away from aggressive winglets, excessive creases and racing graphics. Its clean surfaces, disciplined proportions and exposed mechanical elements were recognised by the international design jury.
According to Norton, the Manx R is among only a handful of motorcycles to receive an IDEA award in the programme’s 45-year history and is the first combustion-engined motorcycle to be recognised since 2015.
Developed under the creative direction of Professor Gerry McGovern and led by Norton Head of Design Simon Skinner, the motorcycle features an all-new V4 powertrain, semi-active suspension, Brembo braking, advanced rider assistance technology and an 8-inch TFT touchscreen.
In Guwahati, the recognition could strengthen Norton’s appeal among premium motorcycle enthusiasts and performance-bike buyers in the Northeast. As interest in high-end motorcycles grows across urban markets, a globally recognised design could help build anticipation for Norton’s future presence in India.
Designed and built at Norton’s headquarters in Solihull, UK, the Manx R and Atlas mid-size adventure bike are scheduled to go on sale in the United States from October 2026, with pricing yet to be announced.
