Nomination Check Pending in 2 Seats as Assam Election Process Nears Final List Deadline

The process of checking nomination papers for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections has been largely completed, with election officials clearing candidates for most of the constituencies across the state. According to an official statement issued by the Joint Chief Electoral Officer, scrutiny of nomination papers was carried out for 124 out of the total 126 Assembly constituencies. The process for two constituencies: Barpeta (SC) and Dhekiajuli  could not be completed and has been postponed. The scrutiny for these two seats will resume at 11 am on March 25.

After the verification process, nomination papers of 776 candidates have been found valid across the 124 constituencies where scrutiny has been completed. These candidates are now officially in the fray, subject to the next stage of the election process.Election authorities also shared that a total of 815 candidates had filed 1,389 nomination papers for the Assembly elections this year. The higher number of nomination papers compared to candidates is due to many contestants filing multiple sets of papers, which is a common practice in elections.

Meanwhile, the election schedule is moving ahead as planned. The last date for candidates to withdraw their nominations is March 26, up to 3 pm. After this deadline, the final list of contesting candidates will be prepared, giving a clear picture of the electoral contest in each constituency.
