On Sunday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma announced the good news to the public that no rhino poaching was recorded in 2022 in Assam.
Assam is well known for its one-horned rhinoceros, and the state attracts a lot of tourists who come to see these animals.
Especially good news for animal lovers, the announcement was made on the first day of the new year.
GP Singh, Special DGP of Assam, shared data on rhino poaching cases in the state on Twitter, says: “Our efforts to combat rhino poaching have shown positive results. Poachers did not kill a single rhino in Assam in 2022. The most recent such occurrence occurred on December 28, 2021, at Hilkund, Kohora, Golaghat district. Our anti-poaching activities will continue.”
Rhino poaching was common earlier but after strict security, its numbers have decreased. According to reports, the number of rhinos in Assam is also increasing now..
