No LPG Crisis in Assam: Police Issue Advisory as Govt Urges Public Not to Share Unverified Fuel Shortage Claims

The Assam Police has issued a public advisory warning people not to spread rumours about a possible shortage of LPG and other fuel products in the state. The warning comes amid rising public concern over fuel supplies following the ongoing conflict in West Asia. In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the Assam Police said strict legal action will be taken against anyone who spreads false or misleading information about the availability of LPG, petrol, diesel and other petroleum products. The police urged citizens not to believe or forward unverified messages circulating on social media. According to the advisory, some “inimical elements” may try to spread false claims to create panic and confusion among the public.

Officials said rumours about a possible fuel shortage have been widely shared on social media in recent days. This has led to concern among consumers in several places and discussions about the availability of cooking gas and other fuels.Reassuring the public, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said there is no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders in the state. He said the supply system remains stable and that the government is closely monitoring the situation.Sarma said India has arrangements to procure gas from around 40 countries. Because of this wide supply network, the availability of LPG in the country is not expected to face disruption. He said the government remains confident that cooking gas supplies will continue without interruption.

Authorities said the spread of unverified information during sensitive situations can create unnecessary panic among people. Such rumours may also lead to panic buying or hoarding of essential fuel products, which can disrupt normal distribution systems. The police have therefore appealed to citizens to rely only on information issued by official government sources. People have also been asked not to share unconfirmed messages on social media platforms.
