The Dr Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creativity at The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika by launching the book “BHUPEN HAZARIKA: Twenty Songs and Seven Portraits” as part of the centenary commemorations for the legendary artist. The launch event included a panel discussion and the screening of “Bhupen Da Uncut,” a 65-minute biographical documentary showcasing rare footage of Dr. Hazarika from the UK in 1999.
The book, edited by Sattyakee D’com Bhuyan, features English translations of 20 iconic songs by Arkupal Ra Acharya, and it comprises seven essays written by distinguished regional writers. Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury, Chair of the Centre, described the anthology as a manifestation of Dr. Hazarika’s vast creative contributions, emphasizing his ability to express profound love for humanity and community through his art. Dr. AK Pansari, Chancellor of RGU, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to preserving Dr. Hazarika’s legacy.
The event was attended by notable figures such as Bobeeta Sharma, Dr. Nripen Borkataki, and Champak Borbora, providing insights and reflections on Dr. Hazarika’s influence in contemporary socio-cultural contexts. Sattyakee D’com Bhuyan a deep examination of the anthology, highlighting its thematic significance in shaping societal imagination. The essays in the book cover diverse topics, including personal anecdotes and cultural reflections about Dr. Hazarika, while the volume is enhanced by rare visuals contributed by photographer Labu Senapati and features a stunning cover design by Champak Borbora.
